2/3/2024 0 Comments Ipad word writerI use Word for writing, but I always switch back to Chrome for research and OneNote for my notes. Keyboard is great, but not book-length great. My personal cons for not using it as my writing machine are: I do, however, occasionally use it in the afternoons for “sofa editing,” or just reading back through what I wrote that morning. While the folio keyboard is surprisingly great (even the 11”), I wouldn’t want to write a book on it. I can in a pinch, but it’s always been a huge hassle. I use my 11” iPad Pro every day, but I don’t write on it. I’m a full-time nonfiction book ghost writer, writing 5-6 books a year. I think an iPad might be OK.ĭefinitely not for me. But if it is headers and occasional bold/italics type stuff. If you need to do a lot of formatting when you write, I would still have second thoughts. If you could move the cursor AND select text with a desktop-style click-and-drag, double-click, and triple-click, then I would say yes, you could use an iPad as your main text entry machine. I have to relearn those, they are in different places than on my other keyboards. IOS does have keyboard shortcuts for moving/selecting one word at a time, thank goodness. To move the cursor, I had to jab at the screen or use arrow keys, and the key repeat rate was too slow for arrows, and I haven't found where to change that yet. What was 100% miserable was editing text. The K380 is pretty decent for text input. The other day I got a Logitech K380, headed to the pub, and tried to get some writing done. I am not a "writer" but I write at times. Thoughts? Should I go for an iPad Pro or a MacBook? Is the iPad Pro a good tool for a writer who uses a separate keyboard (instead of using the keyboard folio)? But I’m worried I’ll buy the iPad and realize I still need a traditional computer, making it just an expensive toy. I think the iPad Pro looks amazing and I’d love to get to play around with the Apple Pencil and Procreate. And I use a separate ergonomic keyboard on my MacBook too (which I believe I can use with an iPad). I mostly use my laptop for writing in an app called Scrivener (and I know there’s an iPad version of the app, plus I’d probably be fine with Pages). Since I’m a writer, I don’t really use resource intensive applications like photoshop or Final Cut or anything. And my MacBook never leaves my home office. I probably spend 80–90% or my tech time on my iPhone and/or AppleTV. But I realized that I don’t really use my laptop much anymore. My 2015 12” Macbook is getting old and slow. But I’m wondering if anyone out there can give their take from a writer’s perspective. I know a LOT of people on YouTube and in articles have covered the topic of the iPad Pro potentially replacing your laptop. Thank you for reporting spam and other rule-breaking content.
